Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

Percy Jackson is already a very accredited book series for young adults. As a long time reader and admirer of Rick Riordan I would like to offer my personal opinions on his first book in the series, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. The original book was a classic for me and was one of my first books that actually entertained me and made me love to read.

First, the negatives, As a whole the plot is amazing with action packed chapters that are still entertaining. However, in a chapter towards the middle of the book where Percy and his friends get off of an exploding bus, there is a pretty long pause in between action sequences. The only other slight issue I have with the original Percy Jackson book is that one of the  antagonist’s Clarise is sort of the regular bully and is not given any defining character traits until the second book.

Now the positives, Percy Jackson is a great character who develops into a different and better person by the end of the book. Honestly most of the characters are explained in greater detail and have a great driving motive by the end of the book. As well as a great plot excluding that time mentioned before. The ending is also very well written and overall I enjoyed this book a lot when I was younger.

I rate this book an 8 out of 10. I recommend this book to people who don’t read that much and are trying to read more. When you have the time I recommend reading this book.
