A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini

A Thousand Splendid Suns is an outstanding novel that comprises with themes of love ,loyalty, and friendship. This story tells a tale of 2 young women fallen under a crisis which they did not seek. Mariam and Laila are complete different ages and somehow meet each other only to become close companions to face a hardship together. If I were to spend one day with one of these characters in the book it would be Rasheed. I extremely dislike this character for his close minded and abusive characteristics. I would like to talk to him about his childhood and if he was taught to be so abusive when he does not get what he wants. This novel has a total of 334 pages and I wish the authors added more pages so he could continue there life story. My favorite quote from the book was “you cannot stop you from being who you are.” This is a beautiful quote written by Hosseini that means that not even yourself can stop you from being who you want to be. You can be whatever you want no matter what excuse is trying to to stop you. The title of the book shows how Afghanistan accomplished so many things culturally, however, it is also ironic because the picture of the front cover of the book shows how Afghanistan is being destroyed. A Thousand Splendid Suns is an amazing book and I would love to continue to read more of Hosseini’s books.
