They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera

The fiction novel, They Both Die at the End, by Adam Silvera, follows the two main protagonists, Rufus and Mateo, as they navigate their last day alive. The story takes place in a world where everyone is given a phone alert on the day of their death, leading to many services designed to help people live their last day to the fullest. One of these services is an app known as the “Last Friend App”, which allows people who have received notice of their soon to come death to find one last friend, often someone who has also received the alert, to spend their last breathing moments with. It is through this app that our two main protagonists, from very different walks of life, Rufus and Mateo, meet, kick starting the plot of this thrilling novel. The story follows the duo as they get to know each other and try to leave the world without any regrets, in a story that is not as morose as one might think. The story is told from a first person perspective, alternating between the two main characters and, once in a while, a side character. My favorite part of this book would have to be when Rufus and Mateo both learn to accept their deaths and decide not to spend their final moments in woe. The two characters share an amazing dynamic, despite being almost polar opposites upon first glance. I would rate this book a 10/10 and would recommend it to anyone.
