Ashes by Laurie Halse Anderson

This book is a very interesting historical fiction book about the time of slavery. It's about a girl named Isabel who is a slave and wants to be free. She wants to leave the plantation she lives on but, she can't do that alone. She has to find her lost little sister Ruth and run away with her. If Isabel does try to find Ruth, that's going to be very hard. She doesn't even know if Ruth is alive and bounty hunters will try to find them. They are not safe and must stick together. I would recommend this book for people that want to know how slaves felt and what they had to go through, just for a natural born right: freedom.  I rate this book a 7 out of 10.  My favorite character is Isabel because she is a very good role model. She tries her best to find her sister, protect her and make a better life for them both. When times were tough, she tried her best.

Ashes by Laurie Halse was a very interesting book to read about the time period of which slavery was the norm in society. This book takes you through the life of Isabel, a slave who wants freedom from the plantation. To do so, she makes it a plan to find her sister, Ruth, and run away with her. Isabel doesn't even know if Ruth is alive, and the fact that the hunters working with the plantation owner will try to find them. This is a very dangerous thing to do, especially during this time period. I would recommend this book to my friends that are really interested in industrial America. I rate this book a 7 out of 10. My favorite character is Isabel because what she did was truly the bravest act of bravery. She went against authority for something that should've always been hers: freedom. I really admired the way she cared for her sister during this dangerous time.
