Scythe by Neal Shusterman

Scythe Faraday takes on two apprentices to train and teach them how to become a scythe. A scythe is a person who gleans people to keep the population down and they are above all laws. This futuristic time period is where there is no disease, famine, and war. Rowan and Citra, Scythe Faraday’s apprentices have to pass two major tests to earn the ring and only one will get the chance to become a scythe. This book then follows a series of unfortunate events throughout the book. My favorite part in this book is when Scythe Faraday chooses his two apprentices, Rowan and Citra, because he believes that either one of them can do good for the world. I would recommend this book to friends because they can enjoy reading the adventures and events that happen in this book.

I’m reading Scythe by Neal Shusterman. This book is takes place in a post-mortal world, where no one dies and human “perfection.” Well, one could die at the hands of a scythe. The plot centers on two average teenagers, Citra Terranova and Rowan Damisch, and how they are chosen to be a Scythe. If that isn’t surprising, a chain of charming and scary events would make them iconic in Scythe history. My favorite character is Citra, because of her defiant attitude. My favorite part is when the two are chosen to become scythes.

I’d rate this book a 10/10, this book is amazing. First, it keeps the reader hooked to the book. When one twist or hallmark that alerts you is almost done, another one jumps in to keep the excitement going. There’s emotion, too. From being separated from your family to being faced with killing, running away, or suicide, it shows the darkness of “perfection” and the struggle of many different people. I would recommend this book to all of my friends, for the general atmosphere, and its aforementioned element of surprise that is compatible with their attention spans. Overall, reading this book was an amazing experience for me, and I want this to be yours.
