In the book The Drowned Cities, the story is centered around two orphaned children, Mahlia and Mouse, who have lost their parents to the war. The two have managed to survive in the jungle, relying on each other for food and shelter. However, when soldier boys invade their village, Mouse is taken prisoner and it’s up to Mahlia to either risk her life going after him, or to escape on her own to the safety of Seascape, Boston.
Even though the story is well told, there are several parts to the story that contain a lot of blood, gore and violence. The characters were very interesting and relatable. Overall, this book is very good and is great for anyone looking for an exciting dystopian adventure.
