The Apothecary by Maile Meloy – Two Reviews!

JacketI really love this book because of how well the story is written. The Apothecary takes place in 1952 with a young girl named Janie.  Janie had just moved to London from the United States because her parents believed in Communism.  Eventually she meets a boy named Benjamin who want’s to become a spy. Then one day, when Benjamin and Janie were spying they figured out that something  was wrong. The Russian they were spying on gave a note to Benjamin’s father, the apothecary.  Soon Benjamin’s father disappears and it’s up to Benjamin, Janie, and another boy they meet along the way known as Pip, to find him. Their journey changes along the way when they realize what Benjamin’s father was trying to do – save the world from a bomb 20 times strong than the one used at Hiroshima.  This is a book that I would definitely recommend to my friends because the story is fast-paced and full of action. You just never get bored with the story. I would definitely rate this book 9 out of 10.

The Apothecary by Maile Meloy is a spellbinding book that is easily one of the best books I have ever read.  It is a perfect mix of magic, danger, adventure, excitement, courage, love and friendship.  My favorite characters in this book are Benjamin and Jamie.  They are my favorite characters because they are both courageous, adventurous and brace when they try to find Benjamin’s missing father.  With its ups and downs and twists and turns, I give this book a 10 out of 10 rating.  This book is just so wonderful and can be enjoyed by people of all genders and ages.  I would recommend this book to my friends, family and people I know because I know that they will be as spellbound and wonderstruck as I was when I read this.
