Chime by Franny Billingsley – Two Reviews!

In the novel Chime by Franny Billingsley, a 17 year-old girl named Briony, who lived in Swampsea had a terrible secret.  Briony was a witch who believed that she had killed her stepmother, and had poisoned her twin sister Rosie’s mind.  Briony’s secret is not to be told to any human being; not unless she urges to be hanged.  Briony is compelled to keep her mouth shut in order to stay alive and keep the promise to her late stepmother, whom she had adored.  Briony believes that she is the most wicked human being.   A boy named Eldric comes to live with Briony and her family, and is stubborn to believe that she is a wicked girl.  Soon, Briony falls in love with Eldric, who turns out to be her true hero.

My favorite character in the book was Eldric because of his true innocence.  My favorite part of the story was when Briony found out the actual secret about herself.  I would give this book 5 stars because it is a wild, haunting mystery with romance, but I would only recommend it to teenagers who have a good understanding of books.

Briony is a young girl with a secret, a secret that could save the town or destroy it.  However, she’s too afraid of telling her secret because of the penalty – death.  So she tries to find other ways to save her town.

My favorite character is Briony and my favorite event is when Briony recalls the day she hurt her sister because it reveals things about her past.  I rate this book 3/5 and I wouldn’t recommend this book to friends because the start doesn’t have that much action.
