Lockdown by Walter Dean Myers

The book Lockdown by Walter Dean Myers is based on a fifteen-year-old kid who gets sent to a half jail for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.  He will get into fights and get into tough situations where it will determine whether he will go to a real jail or go back on the streets.  To shorten his time, he works at at place called Evergreen.  He starts to become friends with the owner, Mr. Hoof.  Mr Hoof tells him stories about the past when he was a kid.  Maurice (the kid in jail) is a friend with another kid that calls himself Play.  Maurice has a little sister named Icy who already knows what she wants to be when she grows up and which college she wants to go to.  Maurice wants to be there with her because she is only nine years old.  Maurice has some pretty close calls where he is about to be sent upstate to a real jail.  The book is really good and you should enjoy reading it yourself.
