The Heart is Not a Size by Beth Kephart is an outstanding novel about two best friends with completely different body types who travel to Mexico to help bring changes to the unfortunate. Throughout this journey, Georgia and Riley are tested on what is more important; their friendship or each other. In this novel, my favorite character was Riley. Riley is that outgoing, artistic and extremely friendly girl that you can’t resist being friends with. However, the only person who can’t seem to stand her is her own mother. Riley feels that no matter what she does, it always seems average to her mom. Therefore, what started as a small thing that can get her mom to see that Riley isn’t just some ordinary girl turned out to be a life vs. death situation.
Riley had a bad case of anorexia. So, when Riley had described her flashback about her mom when she was younger, it was my favorite part because it was as if it was me she was talking about rather than herself.
Due to how amazing this book is, I would rate it a 10 on a scale of 1-10. I definitely recommend this book to all readers!
