Pretty Girl-13 by Liz Coley

I would rate this book 4 stars.  The book starts out great and keeps you hooked throughout the story.  It lets you in on a little therapy.  Except for the multiple personalities, this book was realistic and held truth to it.  I was a little disappointed near the end because of the lack of information it gave on what happens to Angie.  I was sad to see Little Wife and Angel go.  Other than that, this book was terrific.

Sometimes it’s better to not know the unknown. Angie Chapman has been missing for 3 years. She was kidnapped at the age of 13 and found at the age of 16. Here’s the catch. She can’t remember anything. She has no idea what happened to her during the last 3 years of her life, and neither does anyone else. In fact, she was thought to be dead.  She goes to therapy sessions struggling to understand what has happened. She surprisingly learns a lot about her 16 year old self by going to therapy, and that includes the fact that she has multiple personalities. Together with her multiple personalities, Girl Scout, LittleWife, Tattletale, and Angel, Angie has to piece her life back together learning a little bit more each day. My favorite character in the story is Girl Scout.  She’s confident, hardworking, and knows how to truly survive. She helped save ngie’s life and without her, Angie would never be the same. I recommend this book to people of a more mature audience. Angie’s problems help the reader see that there is more to life than having fun and being crazy.

In all honesty, this novel is truly haunting.  Right from the start it creates an enthralling story that kept me, and all other readers, at the edge of their seat.  It delves into the complex psychological defenses of the human mind, all while describing an innocent teen who must figure out where three years of his life went.  Almost everyone has wondered at one point, what would happen if I disappeared right now?  Coley does a fascinating job of taking that question and turning it into a novel readers won’t be able to tear their eyes off of.  All in all, I give it a 10 out of 10.
